collagen 101

what is collagen?

collagen is the most abundant source of protein in our body. it is a foundational building block made up of long chains of amino acids that provide strength and structure for our connective tissues. collagen is like glue holding everything together. this means that collagen is essential to the functioning of our skin, blood vessels, muscles, tendons, ligaments, bones, and the digestive system.

why should we consume it?

our body’s natural production of collagen peaks in our early twenties and slowly starts to decline as we age. elasticity and suppleness of the skin decline and the cartilage in our joints weaken, causing wrinkles, sagging skin and joint pain. however, the good news is that consuming collagen has been found to repress this natural decline.

how do we consume it?

the main dietary source of collagen is derived from animals and specifically, from parts that are not often consumed in modern diets. therefore, bone broths, collagen supplements and now gldn hour can give you that much needed boost. ingestible collagen needs to be in a state that can be well absorbed by the body which is why dietary collagen is hydrolyzed into a smaller molecule what our body can easily access and use. when you eat hydrolyzed collagen, the body breaks it down and it becomes available to the areas that need it most through the bloodstream as collagen peptides and free amino acids.  science is showing that ingesting collagen can regenerate, repair and strengthen the connective tissues in our entire body.

why marine collagen?

we specifically chose marine collagen for its notable anti-aging properties. marine is a type 1 collagen, which is the most abundant collagen in the body with the highest bioavailability. It is found in the skin and bones, blood vessel walls as well as connective tissue and fibrous cartilage. science has shown that among the various types of collagen, this fibrous protein is the best and most effective type for skin health, minimizing wrinkles and improving the skin’s health and hydration. hydrolyzed fish collagen contains greater amounts of the amino acids glycine and proline than many other proteins that are necessary for promoting healthy tissue growth of hair, skin and nails. our collagen is a pure, hypo-allergenic protein that is easy to digest with a neutral taste and odor. manufactured in a facility dedicated to marine products, our collagen is 100%  natural, sustainable and contains no additives, preservatives or sulfites.

heavy metals?

mercury levels in hydrolyzed fish collagen are very low, less than 0.1 ppm due to the origin of our raw material (Wild Caught North Atlantic Fish) and the processes used in the manufacturing process. In the process, the water is filtered using Nano Filtration, which removes higher molecular weights such as trace metals. During concentration, Ultr Filtration is used which removes higher molecular weights products such as trace metals.

Can pregnant women consume it? It is best to speak with your doctor in regards to an appropriate mercury content but hydrolyzed fish collagen would be very very small amount of total daily intact.
